International Business
Business is global, and business majors need global skills for success. At SMU Cox, you can develop those skills through a variety of programs. Take advantage of every opportunity to globalize your experience. Participate in lectures, seminars, and symposiums that are international in nature. Apply for a Richter Foundation grant to fund an international research project. Seek out international internships, or internships with multi-national corporations. Study abroad. Learn the language. Get global!
Learn a language. At SMU you can study Arabic, Japanese, Spanish, German, Italian, Hindi, Chinese (Mandarin), Italian, Latin, French, and Russian.
Add a second major or minor in foreign language or international studies. The Cox BBA will give you the skills you need for business, and your elective courses can be used toward a second major or minor that will expand your awareness of the historical, political, economic, and social issues facing our world.
Study and work abroad. All business majors are strongly encouraged to include a summer, semester, or year abroad in their curriculum. More than 30% of all SMU students take advantage of our extensive student abroad options, some of which include international internships. Studying abroad through SMU is a seamless experience; SMU scholarships and financial aid automatically apply to the semester abroad, students do not lose enrollment priority while abroad, and SMU programs are facilitated through on-site coordinators. Complete information on SMU study abroad options can be found on the Study Abroad web page.
SMU in China: Business Study Abroad Program: New study abroad programs are being developed, including a new summer SMU in China.
- Business Program in Hong Kong: This is a four week residential program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong that introduces SMU/Cox undergraduate students (both majors and minors) to China's history, culture, and contemporary economic, political and business environment. It focuses on doing business in China and China's right history and culture. This program focuses on business management in the context of Chinese culture and values, providing students with new perspectives to help understand cross cultural management and the impact of this emerging economy. In addition, this course allows students to immerse themselves in the people, culture, and history of China. The program includes lectures, field trips, visits with leading companies in Hong Kong and China, and a four day trip to mainland China. This summer's program dates are July 4-30, 2011.
