SMU Cox William J. O'Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom releases 2009 Annual Report "The Ascension of DFW"

With one of the nation's most vibrant urban economies, the Dallas-Fort Worth area adds nearly a million people every six years.

W. Michael Cox and Richard Alm explore the factors behind this growth in "The Ascension of DFW: How to Keep a Good Thing Going," the essay in the first annual report for the O'Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom. They identify three keys to DFW's economic success--Texas' high level of economic freedom, DFW companies' global competitiveness and the area's development of exportable services.

Ray Hunt receives inaugural Frank Pitts Energy Leadership Award

SMU Cox and the Maguire Energy Institute presented the inaugural L. Frank Pitts Energy Leadership Award to Ray Hunt in April.

Named in honor of the late oil and gas professional, the award is given to an individual who exemplifies a spirit of ethical leadership and innovative impact on the energy industry.

The award will be given annually at an event to honor the person selected and to recognize Frank Pitts’ legacy of entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation and integrity in the energy industry. “I am honored that the Maguire Energy Institute and SMU Cox created this award to celebrate my father’s legacy,” said Linda Pitts Custard. “He would have been delighted that Ray was selected as the recipient as he greatly admired and respected him.”

COX AT Work

SMU Cox Executive Education featured on KLIF's "Jobs and Careers"

Martin Birnbach will feature the NHCC/SMU partnership on his hour-long Sunday program, featuring Mickey Quinones, Frank Lloyd and David Gonzales, member of the Board of Advisors, SMU Meadows School of the Arts.

The interview will be live on 570 KLIF-AM, Dallas/Ft. Worth. The program takes place from 4 – 5PM, Sunday, June 27.

It will be an interactive discussion, and listeners are encouraged to call in with questions.
