SMU Cox Faculty Experts: Organizational Behavior/Human Resources

Miguel Quiñones, the O. Paul Corley Distinguished Chair of Organizational Behavior, is highly-regarded expert in the field of human resource management as well as organizational development and change. He also leads the SMU Cox CEO Sentiment Survey that tracks the state of the Dallas/Fort Worth Area business community through the perspective of local business leaders. He has been widely recognized for his scholarship, including recently being selected to serve on a panel of the National Academy of Sciences, serving as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar and visiting professor in Santiago, Chile, and being elected a Fellow for the American Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Don VandeWalle, associate professor in the management and organizations department, specializes in employee motivation, executive development, leadership and management, organizational behavior, and organizational change. Mel Fugate, assistant professor in the management and organizations department, is an expert on employee performance, human resources, and managing organizational change. This includes, but is not limited to downsizing, restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, and plant closings. Fugate consults with managers to assess the impact of change events on employees and devise action plans to effectively manage the change process. His work focuses on topics such as leadership development, psychology of organizational change, employability, and performance management. Maribeth Kuenzi, assistant professor of management and organization, has two main areas of research in which she has interest and has published. First, she is interested in organizational climate/culture and how this affects employee behavior and organizational performance. Second, she is interested in ethical leadership and ethical decision making in organizations. Jay Carson, assistant professor in the management and organizations department, specializing in relationships between internal team leadership, team performance, team motivation, and individual outcomes. He looks for opportunities to connect with managers to better understand problems they are facing or new innovations that they are attempting, as well as for ways to share how recent knowledge can benefit their approach to management.
