SMU Cox Faculty Experts: Organization/Strategy

Gordon Walker is Chairman of the Strategy and Entrepreneurship Department. He specializes in strategic planning, corporate and business strategy, institutional economics, and organization theory. The 3rd edition of Walker’s text - Modern Competitive Strategy – was published last December. He has worked as a consultant with many firms, small and large, including Sprint, Electronic Data Systems, Xerox, General Motors, Johnson and Johnson, and Texas Industries. Walker can also speak to the roles and responsibilities of boards, as he himself sits on the board of directors of a NASDAQ-listed company, where chairs the Nominating and Governance Committee. David Lei is an associate professor in the management and organizations department. He specializes in business strategy, corporate strategy, manufacturing technology, strategic management, technology investments, technology, and innovation management. He can also discuss business labor in China and how generational issues will cause significant social security problems due to declining numbers of workers. David Croson is an associate professor in the strategy and entrepreneurship department. As an expert in evaluating new venture strategies, including finding ways to turn unusual skills (and even weaknesses) into business assets, he can provide simple and intuitive analyses of how small businesses succeed or fail. He frequently mentors technology and service startups (as well as venture investors) and provides a practical approach to evaluating risk and reward in new ventures.
