Multimedia Studio / Group Presentation Room
The Multimedia Studio is a sound-proof room used exclusively for creating multimedia projects for class assignments including videos, podcasts, web design projects, ePortfolios, and more.
The studio features a creation station (with 24" iMac computer) with the following software:
- Final Cut Express
- Adobe CS4 (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, etc)
- iLife (iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, iPhoto, Garageband)
- OpenOffice
- iWork (Pages, Keynote)
- Apple Pro Applications (Aperture, Logic, etc.)
The studio is available by reservation for up to two-hour time periods. Online help assistance is available for students within the studio via iChat (Monday – Friday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm), and dedicated staff assistance is available when an appointment is scheduled in advance.
To enhance users' mobility for creating off-site multimedia projects, two iPods kits and a digital video camera may be checked out for short-term loans.

The Group Presentation Room is equipped with a computer, LCD overhead projector, projection screen, StarBoard monitor, Targus presentation remote control, and other items to facilitate the creation, practice and refinement of students' classroom presentations.
The room is available by reservation for up to two-hour time periods and can accommodate between two and eight student.
Group Presentation Room Hours:
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 am – 10:45 pm
Friday: 8:00 am – 4:45 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am – 4:45 pm
Sunday: 12:00 pm – 10:45 pm
The Multimedia Studio and Group Presentation Room are available to all current students, faculty, and staff with a valid SMU ID. Patrons checking out these rooms or resources accept full responsibility for lost or damaged equipment or facilities. Individual Study Space
Individual quiet study space is available in the Quiet Area of the BIC. In addition, computers are available for check out in the “Q” computer area which is specifically reserved for individual quiet computer use.
Group Study Space
Six group study computers located in the “G” computer section are available for check out to groups of two or more.
Computer Resources
- Computers: 69 iMacs with access to networked library resources are available for patrons to check out with a valid SMU ID or alumni card.
- Quick Print Stations: For added convenience, two walk-up Quick Print Computer Stations are available for up to 3 minutes per user to print out assignments or a fast check of email.
- Printing: High speed laser printers are available, as well as a color laser printer. Printers are attached to Pay-for-Print stations which accept SMU PONI or Copy Card payments for networked printing. A "CSVT" unit in the copy room allows users to add value to their PONI account or purchase Copy Cards.
- E-mail and Internet: E-mail and Internet service are accessible from any computer in the BIC.
- Software: All computers are equipped with Microsoft Office, Firefox, Internet Explorer, web authoring software (Sharepoint Designer 2007), and course-specific software.
- Specialty Software: Special analytical databases are available on a limited number of computers within the BIC, including DataStream, WONDA, Bloomberg, and SAS. Each computer has a CD/DVD drive, and USB ports.
- Resume Print Station: A resume computer workstation and attached laser printer is available - check out a placard at the front desk.
- Scanner: A scanner is available - check out a placard at the front desk.
- Copy Machine: Two copy machines and essential office supplies are available, including a hole punch, stapler, paper cutter, scissors, paper clips, etc.

- Additional Software: SMU provides access to a variety of software in an academic lab setting at specific times. Please visit the SMU “IT Computing Classrooms” page for more information.
Networking for Laptops
There are plug-in local ports for Ethernet access to the LAN located throughout the BIC as well as wireless connections for IEEE 802.11b compatible devices.
