The Business Leadership Center

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children Consulting Program

The TSRHC program is an excellent opportunity to give back to the community while learning about non-profit operations. Students attend a one-day introductory tour of the hospital, after which they divide into teams and are assigned to work on real-life challenges faced by the hospital staff. After a three-week group consulting work period, participants return to the hospital to present suggested solutions to TSRHC executives and board members.

The projects covered in Spring of 2011 were:

  • Patient Check-In Policy in Ambulatory Care
  • Physical Therapy Equipment Inventory Management
  • Staff Development - Customer Service Program
  • Staff Commuter and Mobility
  • Evolving Employee Demographics - Evolving Employee Benefits
  • Wellness Program Analysis
  • Legacy Scholarship Program Alumni Association
  • Overhead Allocation
  • Employee Performance Evaluation Analysis
  • Paid-Time-Off Analysis
  • Expansion of the Help a Child Benefit

"Through the BLC’s Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children Consulting Program, I have been able to draw on my experience as a business analyst, combined with new knowledge, and give back to the community in a way that potentially has a more far reaching impact than just obtaining an MBA degree. The TSRHC experience has been a highlight of my SMU educational experience!"
