The Business Leadership Center

Leadership Challenge Program

The Leadership Challenge Workshop® is an intensive program based on the award-winning book, The Leadership Challenge by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner.  The program is highly interactive. Participants experience and apply The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® through video cases, workbook exercises, group problem-solving tasks, and minimal lectures.

This is an overnight retreat where the cost of the program, including the program, overnight hotel (Omni Park West), breakfast/lunch, and all fees for the assessments used, is covered by the Cox BLC Endowment.   Program size is limited to 25 students.

As a result of this retreat, participants will be better able to:

  • Identify their own leadership strengths and areas of improvement
  • Search for opportunities to take the risks needed for growth
  • Express their image of the future
  • Inspire others to share a common vision
  • Strengthen others' abilities to excel
  • Build collaboration, teamwork and trust
  • Communicate fundamental values and beliefs
  • Focus people's efforts on key values through their own actions
  • Recognize the accomplishments of others
  • Enjoy themselves while working hard

“One of the highlights as a Graduate Business School student was the 2 day Leadership Challenge Retreat through the Business Leadership Center. The Leadership Challenge itself was facilitated by Craig Haptonstall, who has exceptional communication skills. It was eye opening to learn certain aspects about oneself, and how to utilize these for team success and realizing objectives.  Leadership skills can be developed by honing ones own personal skills, and as business students, this retreat proved, it's absolutely imperative for each and everyone to get the means to develop them. I am glad that I took the first step by attending the Leadership Challenge Retreat!”

“Taking part in the BLC has helped me take a step back and examine all that I do for my group; to create a list of leadership characteristics that I can dismiss or improve upon. This has enriched my understanding of the little things that make the difference between a good and a great leader.”
