About Us

BBA & MSA Career Services serves the undergraduate students (candidates for the Bachelor of Business Administration degree) and the Master of Science in Accounting students in the Cox School of Business. The department provides a full array of services including advising appointments, assessments, specialized career preparation workshops and seminars, mentoring programs, resume reviews, critiqued mock interviews, employer recruitment activities including career fairs, information sessions, job interviews and more.

Our Hours of Operation

Monday-Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Scheduled appointments as well as drop-in advising are available daily (M-F).

Our Mission

BBA & MSA Career Services fosters the development of lifelong career management skills and facilitates connections to employment opportunities

Our Goals:

  1. Teach and support students throughout the career development process: self-awareness and self-assessment, career exploration and skills development, job search/decision-making and career transition/management.
  2. Collaborate with academic and administrative colleagues to develop and deliver career exploration, development and management programs.
  3. Partner with employers/alumni to maximize program and employment opportunities for students.
  4. Capitalize on technology as a tool and resource in communicating and delivering services.

Expected Student Outcomes

A student who fully utilizes and leverages the services available through the Cox BBA & MSA Career Services office should able to:

  1. Identify his/her primary areas of interest for academic preparation and employment.
  2. Identify his/her motivated skills (skills for which the individual has aptitude/competency and consistently enjoys using) and understands the relevance to academic and career planning.
  3. Identify his/her preferred values for work satisfaction and understand the relevance to academic and career planning.
  4. Identify academic majors and/or career paths that are a good fit with the student's interests, personality type preferences, motivated skills and preferred values for work satisfaction.
  5. Locate, review and assess occupational and educational information (for work in specific industries or clusters, jobs/occupations, and/or employers/organizations) for career planning purposes and apply it during the job search process.
  6. Articulate specific challenges or tasks, actions and results that demonstrate his/her competencies and skills set for employment.
  7. Understand how self-awareness/personal assessment and key occupational information relate to his/her career planning and be able to make informed career decisions using that information.
  8. Create effective, professional quality job search correspondence, including (a) a resume, (b) a cover letter, and (c) a thank-you letter.
  9. Effectively verbally communicate his/her job or career interest, qualities, employment skills and competencies.
  10. Develop an effective job search strategy and action plan.
  11. Demonstrate his/her ability to utilize technology and new media in the job search process.
  12. Synthesize information gained from the career planning and preparation process, relate it to a specific employment opportunity and successfully communicate his/her qualifications, skills and knowledge of the industry/company sufficient to result in a job offer and employment.
  13. (a) Analyze a job posting or description to identify qualifications/requirements, (b) compare his/her competencies and skills to the requirements, (c) determine the skills gaps, if any, and assess "fit" for the position, and (d) identify necessary steps to apply for the job.
  14. Identify competencies, behaviors and practices for obtaining and maintaining employment, successfully transitioning from school into the workplace and managing a career.
  15. Demonstrate professional behaviors and practices necessary for obtaining and/or maintaining employment.
