Minor in Business
The Cox School is introducing a new Minor in Business for non-Cox undergraduates at SMU. The new program is designed to provide non-business students with a solid foundation in business basics to complement their primary areas of academic interest.
The Minor in Business is an 18-credit-hour program in which students take five required three-hour courses and one three-hour elective. Classes will be offered only during the summer, with the first slate of classes offered in the summer of 2008. There are no GPA-based admission criteria for the new program.
To complete the program in two summers, students take four courses in a “full-time” capacity during the first summer. During the second summer, students will take two classes and should have enough time to participate in a summer internship. Alternatively, students can pursue the Minor in Business over the course of several summers or take only those classes in which they are interested.
Students currently pursuing the Cox BBA major or the Minor in Business Administration program will not be allowed to enroll in the Minor in Business program courses with the exception of Personal Finance, Markets and Freedom, and Business Processes and Decision, which may be taken for free elective credit by current Cox students. The current Minor in Business Administration program, which has the same admission requirements as the BBA program, will continue to be offered, with classes meeting during the fall and spring semesters.
