BACHELORS OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (BBA)

Current SMU Students

Current SMU students follow the Cox admission requirements outlined in the SMU Catalog for their year of entry to SMU.

To qualify for admission to Cox via the regular Cox admission process, students who enter SMU through Summer 2010 must complete 42 academic hours in good standing and earn a 3.3 GPA in the business subset to qualify for admission to Cox.  The business subset consists of ENGL 1301 and 1302, MATH 1309 (or 1337), ECO 1311 and 1312, ACCT 2301, and STAT 2301 (or ITOM 2305 or STAT 2331). Subset GPAs are calculated based on the first grade earned in the first attempt of the course unless the course was repeated under SMU's first year grade replacement policy. Students who do not earn the 3.3 subset GPA may add one additional course, ACCT 2302, to the subset GPA calculation.  If this extended subset GPA is 3.3, they will be admitted to Cox. You can use the subset GPA calulator to check your subset GPA.

Admission requirements are based on the year of entry to SMU.  Students who entered SMU prior to Fall 2007 should check with their academic advisor for the requirements applicable to their class.

Admission Process:
Pre-business students sign a major declaration form with their academic advisor in the semester that they will complete the Cox admission requirements. After grades are posted, the advisor will send the major declaration form and the student's file to the Cox BBA Admission Office for processing.

Students who have already declared a major in Dedman College, the Lyle School of Engineering, or Meadows School of the Arts, but who woudl like to add a second major in Cox should complete a Student Change of Degree Program Request and submit it to Cox BBA Admissions in 254 Maguire, or fax it to 214.768.4929.

Former SMU Students

SMU Cox BBA students who have not been enrolled for over one year must apply for re-admission to SMU through the SMU Registrar and the BBA Advising Office.  Contact the BBA Advising Office at 214-768-3195 for details on the re-admission process.

Former SMU students who were not business majors, but who wish to return to SMU to seek a business degree, should work with the Office of the Registrar and the Advising or Records Office at their school of record (Dedman College, Meadows, or Engineering) to begin the readmission process.  Non-business majors who have been enrolled at SMU within the past three years must meet the Cox admission requirements outlined in the SMU Catalog in effect for their year of entry to SMU.  Those who have not been enrolled in the past three years must meet the Cox admission and degree requirements in effect at the time of their return to SMU.
