As director of strategic marketing, Andrea Hugg is responsible for building the Cox brand through media relations, rankings and various marketing communications initiatives. She manages relationships with international, national and local reporters in an effort to identify and secure positive media coverage that highlight examples of the SMU Cox brand value, including the school’s programs, trends, students, alumni, and faculty expert sources.

Since Andrea joined Cox in September 2003, the school has improved its standing in nearly all peer-based rankings. In addition, during that time Cox’s presence in the media has increased exponentially.

Andrea has more than 10 years of public relations and marketing experience. She previously worked for The Richards Group, where she developed and managed numerous strategic outreach plans for organizations in higher education, health care, business-to-business, banking, technology, online, beverage, fashion and hospitality industries. Prior to that, she worked with a high-tech public relations agency, where she was responsible for launching technology and dot-com start-ups.

Andrea is on the board of directors for Texas Ballet Theater and serves as president of Lone Star Adagio, a social group that supports the Ballet in Dallas. She is a former board member of the Public Relations Society of America, Dallas Chapter, and an active member of the Junior League of Dallas, the Dallas Museum of Art Junior Associates, the SMU Alumni Association, Mustang Foundation Advisory Board and Highland Park United Methodist Church.

Andrea holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from Southern Methodist University, and she has completed graduate work in marketing through SMU Cox Executive Education. She is currently working on obtaining her master's degree in Cinema and Television, also at SMU.
