BUSINESS INFORMATION CENTER

Did You Know...
Pay-for-Print Available
The BIC has implemented the Uniprint pay-for-print system that is in use at Fondren and other libraries on campus. This enables you to release and pick up your print job without BIC staff assistance. Every computer in the BIC can print to the pay-for-print printer. When you select that printer (it is not the default yet), you must pay using Pony or a copy card. Cash is not accepted by the machine. Beginning Summer 2007, the Business Information Center will no longer accept cash as a method of payment for printing and all BIC computers will send jobs to the pay-for-print printer.
More Market Research Reports
Marketing and Entrepreneurship students now can access a wide array of research reports focusing on consumer packaged goods and the financial services industry in the United States. Some coverage of Western Europe is included as well. The Mintel reports provide up-to-date, in depth statistics and analysis. Lifestyle reports cover demographic groups such as high-income households. The site features two access methods: you can browse by topic or use a keyword search. Because this database contains reports that sell for over $2000 apiece, it is only available for academic use to a person with a valid SMU e-mail address. Logging in gives you the advantage of saving sections of reports so you can easily retrieve them the next time you access the database. This database is available from the Business Databases page. Give Mintel Reports a try!
Accounting Bounty
Accounting students have gained TWO new databases this semester. Accounting and Tax with Standards contains key accounting standards from FASB, GASB, and IASB along with top accounting literature. Standards content includes Original Pronouncements, Statements, Interpretations, Board Opinions, AICPA Interpretations, Current Text, EITF Abstracts and much more. International in scope, this product has in-depth coverage of accounting policies, state and national tax legislation, corporate taxation, as well as related accounting topics such as auditing, compensation, pension plans, and financial management. Additional AICPA and SEC data will be available in Spring 2007.
Historical Annual Reports provides over 800 companies' annual reports (1844-current) available through searchable pdf images amounting to more than 43,000 reports. Key data (financial, Fortune 500 ranking, industry classification, key people, geographic location, auditor, and related companies) are in searchable fields. Annual reports from 1985 to current are being scanned and added to this database and will be complete in Spring 2007.
