Skilled librarians at the Business Information Center offer training sessions to help you get the most out of the resources provided. These workshops focus on the information you will need to successfully complete your research. Classes are limited to 22 participants (limit 5 for Bloomberg) and may be cancelled if fewer than eight students sign up.

Registration Process

You must register for each workshop you plan to attend by using this online form. Check the appropriate box in the "Status" column of the workshop that you wish to attend. At the end of this page supply your contact information and then click the "Submit" button. You are not actually registered for a workshop until you receive a confirmation e-mail.

Bloomberg Basics: The Bloomberg terminal provides access to vast amounts of data dealing with all financial markets. This workshop will cover basic searching strategies used in the Bloomberg database. Finance students are encouraged to become familiar with using the Bloomberg terminal. Each session of this workshop will be limited to 5 participants and will be conducted in the Business Information Center.

Company Financial Research: This workshop will assist you in locating company financial information such as annual reports and income statements. You will learn effective search strategies for finding analysis, deals, and comparisons to peer compainies using Thomson One Banker. Installing and using the Excel add-in toolbar will be covered. Accounting and Finance students will benefit from this workshop.

General Company Research: This workshop will assist students in locating company information beyond what is provided on the company's website. You will learn effective search strategies for Hoover's Online (including the Build a List feature), Factiva, and Business Source Complete. All students will benefit from the general information presented in this workshop.

Industry and Market Research: This workshop will assist students in finding companies in a particular industry and locating industry trends, forecasts, and market share. Business & Company Resource Center, Global Market Information Database (GMID), and Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage are the featured databases. Marketing and strategy students will find the information in this workshop particularly useful.

International Business Research: This workshop will assist students in locating country profiles (including risk ratings), market share data, and company information using Economist Intelligence Unit Viewswire, Factiva, the GLOBUS & NTDB portion of STAT-USA, and Global Market Information Database (GMID). Students participating in global programs such as the GLP trip and others interested in doing business internationally will benefit from this workshop.

Successful Job Searching: This workshop will assist you in finding appropriate careers, teach you to research industries and companies, and show you how to locate current news on applicable business issues. Using freely available websites, Standard & Poor’s Net Advantage, Hoover's Build a List, and ABI/INFORM Complete are demonstrated. Anyone in the job search process will find this workshop useful.
