INSTALLING YOUR NEW WIRELESS CARD IN WINDOWS XP
Right click on the icon My Network places on the Desktop or as an option from the START menu.
In the pull down menu, left click on Properties.
Right click on the icon of a computer monitor with a red cross, sometimes labeled, Wireless Connection, or Local Area Connection in the pull down menu.
Left click on Properties. Left click Configure. Go to the Advanced tab. Highlight the field named either, “ssid” or “Network name” Type in “COX” (must be all CAPS).
Close (“OK”).
Find the properties tab entitled, “Client Utility” And choose the option, “INFRASTRUCTURE”
Find the menu item for “TCP/IP Settings,” And choose the option, “Automatically obtain an IP address.”
IN ORDER TO SAVE THESE SETTINGS YOU MAY NEED TO REBOOT YOUR LAPTOP. On the bottom right taskbar of your desktop, you should see the wireless card icon. Check to see if it shows a connection (to the COX network). If you need to reboot, do not shut down your laptop until you have closed that connection.
AND PLEASE KEEP IN MIND,
If you have an alternate connection profile, such as a dial-up modem, be sure to make "Never dial-up a connection" your default setting under TOOLS/Internet Options /Connections.
WE WANT TO HELP YOU GET CONNECTED. If you have any questions about this particular procedure, or if you have multiple wireless configuration profiles on your laptop, contact the Tech Support Helpdesk between 9am-5pm Monday through Friday.
