DEMOGRAPHICS

This guide provides a quick overview of important resources accessible to Cox students that are or contain demographic resources. Please be aware that specific demographic information about market areas at the zip code level may in some cases only be available at commercial rates. Census data is housed in the Fondren Library Government Information collection and online through the Census Bureau and other government agencies.

LexisNexis Statistical
This service includes ASI: American Statistics Index, the latest edition of Statistical Abstracts of the United States, SRI: Statistical Reference Index, and IIS: Index to International Statistics. The service also has links to other Web sites that provide access to statistical information. The site provides the full text of selected U.S. federal and state documents. Many tables in Statistical Abstracts are from non-governmental sources and protected by copyright, so not available in full text. Many of the tables included in Statistical Universe are GIF or PDF format (image only), but some are in XLS and CSV format for easier manipulation in spreadsheets and tables.
Stat-USA
STAT-USA/Internet, a service of the U.S. Department of Commerce, provides authoritative business, economic and trade community information from the Federal government. National Trade Data Bank is located here.

U.S. Census Bureau (Available via the Internet)
The Census collects a great deal of statistical information in the consumer research area. They have multiple databases within their site for potentially useful marketing information. Major subject areas on the homepage include Census 2000, People, Business, Geography, Newsroom, and Special Topics.
The American Fact Finder
An "online source for population, housing, economic and geographic data". Data is in the form of "data sets, tables, thematic maps, and reference maps" and is gathered from:

Economic Census 1997 and 2002
American Community Survey - 1996-2003
Population Estimates Program - July 1, 2003 to July 1, 2004
County Business Patterns
Selected statistics related to county business.
International Data Base (IDB)
"a computerized source of demographic and socioeconomic statistics for 227 countries and areas of the world."
Statistical Abstracts of the United States
Collection of statistics on demographic, economic social and other aspects of the economy and society. Also available in print.(BIC Reference) 2001

BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS

Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
The "principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics.
Consumer Expenditure Survey
Reports for several years available online that identify the buying habits of American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single consumers characteristics).

North Texas Council of Governments(NTCG)
One of the topics covered on the NTCG website is a display of the population data from the 2000 census which you can look up by zipcode, census tract, or other parameters.
FedStats
Locate official statistical information available to the public from the Federal Government including statistics from over 100 U.S. Federal agencies.
National Center for Health Statistics
