DEMOGRAPHICS
This guide provides a quick overview of important resources accessible to Cox students that are or contain demographic resources. Please be aware that specific demographic information about market areas at the zip code level may in some cases only be available at commercial rates. Census data is housed in the Fondren Library Government Information collection and online through the Census Bureau and other government agencies.

DATABASES County Business Patterns Selected statistics related to county business. LexisNexis Statistical This service includes ASI: American Statistics Index, the latest edition of Statistical Abstracts of the United States, SRI: Statistical Reference Index, and IIS: Index to International Statistics. The service also has links to other Web sites that provide access to statistical information. The site provides the full text of selected U.S. federal and state documents. Many tables in Statistical Abstracts are from non-governmental sources and protected by copyright, so not available in full text. Many of the tables included in Statistical Universe are GIF or PDF format (image only), but some are in XLS and CSV format for easier manipulation in spreadsheets and tables. Stat-USA STAT-USA/Internet, a service of the U.S. Department of Commerce, provides authoritative business, economic and trade community information from the Federal government. Consumer Expenditure Survey (Available via the Internet) Identifies the buying habits of American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single consumers characteristics). Lewis Mumford Center for Comparative Urban and Regional Research (Available via the Internet) Ethnic and racial data for metro areas utilizing U.S. Census 2000 data. Magazine Publishers of America (Available via the Internet) Click "Find Research" for market profiles and other research reports. Some content limited to members only.
Statistical Abstracts of the United States (Available via the Internet) Collection of statistics on demographic, economic social and other aspects of the economy and society. Also available in print. (BIC Reference) 2001 U.S. Census Bureau (Available via the Internet) The Census collects a great deal of statistical information in the consumer research area. They have multiple databases within their site for potentially useful marketing information.
