DEMOGRAPHICS RESEARCH GUIDE
This research guide focuses on identifying and locating demographic information. Demographics are the physical characteristics of a population such as age, sex, marital status, family size, education, geographic location, and occupation. For additional information, Ask a BIC Librarian.

American Fact Finder An online resource for population, housing, economic and geographic data provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. Information provided includes fact sheets for specific communities and statistical information about people, housing, business, and government.
Community Sourcebook of ZIP Code Demographics (Fondren Library) This publication provides demographic information for every U.S. ZIP Code.

County Business Patterns View information about county, metro and zip code level business patterns provided by the U.S. Census Bureau.
HUD State of the Cities Data Systems (SOCDS) The SOCDS provides data for individual metropolitan areas, central cities, and suburbs. Use the 'Quick Link' section to retrieve information first by state and then by city.
LexisNexis Statistical This database provides the full text or data tables of selected U.S. federal and state documents, and also provides links to other Web sites that provide access to statistical information. (SMU Community Only)
North Central Texas Council of Governments Information about a 16 county region of North Texas including the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. At the home page click on the 'Departments' button and select 'Research & Information Services.' Click the yellow 'Demographics' link on the left of the page to find recent demographic information.
State & County QuickFacts Information from the U.S. Cenus Bureau. Select a state from the US map to view a statistical overview and use the drop down boxes to narrow by county or city.

ASSOCIATIONS/ORGANIZATIONS
Population Association of America (PAA) A society of professionals working in the population field. PAA members include demographers, sociologists, economists and public health professionals.
Population Council An international, nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that conducts biomedical, social science, and public health research.
Population Reference Bureau (PRB) PRB informs people from around the world and in the United States about issues related to population, health, and the environment.
Population Resource Center (PRC) The mission of the PRC is to promote the use of accurate population data and sound, objective analysis of this data in the making of public policy.
