FACULTY RESEARCH GUIDE
This research guide identifies Business Information Center, SMU Libraries, and Web based resources aimed at Cox Faculty Members. The librarians in the BIC have developed a wide range of topically focused research guides including industries, companies, and financial markets. For information on researching particular industries & markets or a company please visit those research guides. GENERAL INFORMATION
Area Libraries- Links to DFW area academic and public libraries' Web sites.
SMU Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) - Participate in forums, reading circles, and roundtables organized by the CTE. At the beginning of each academic year the CTE hosts the "Annual Teaching Effectiveness Symposium."
Guide to Faculty Resources - Compiled by SMU Central University Libraries detailing the research tools and support available to faculty through the main SMU libraries.

JOURNALS
BIC Print Journal Subscriptions - View a list of journals currently available in print in the BIC. Print copies are retained for three years with notable exceptions including the Harvard Business Review and Sloan Management Review which are retained for longer. To suggest a journal for inclusion, please use our Comments & Suggestions form.
SMU Journal Subscriptions
To find all journals available via the SMU library, navigate to LibCat, the online catalog for the SMU libraries. Type the journal name in the quick search box and select 'journal title' from the drop down box to the right. This search will return results including both print and online access to the title.
For online, full-text journals, navigate to the Central University Libraries Online Resources page. On the right side, under the heading "Electronic Journals, Magazines, and Newspapers" browse for a journal alphabetically or by subject or 'Search for a title' using the drop-down menu.

Article Searching
ABI / INFORM (ProQuest)
Description: Use this database to find articles gathered from major business magazines, daily newspapers, wire services, and city, state, and regional business publications. Use the drop down choices to search on "company/org" or "NAICS Code" or "product name" among others.
Tip: Use ABI/Inform to read today's online version of the Wall Street Journal.
Coverage:1985 to current; Contains Dissertations, Theses, and EIU Viewswire.

Business Source Complete (EBSCO)
Description: Use Business Source Complete (BSC) to find articles from major national publications, trade journals, and regional sources. Also, find market research reports, industry profiles, and country reports. This database defaults to the advanced search interface.
Tip: Enter the name of a country to retrieve available country reviews and various forecasts. Use Business Source Complete to read the Harvard Business Review. BSC includes Datamonitor reports and SWOT analyses.
Coverage: Selected articles prior to 1960, selected full text available from 1965 forward; updated daily.

Factiva (Dow Jones Reuters)
Description: Business news and research solution, integrating content from top national newspapers, Dow Jones & Reuters newswires, business journals, market research reports, analyst reports and web sites from around the world.
Tip: Includes access to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Digital Research Tools wiki
Description: This wiki is assembled by academic librarians to bring together a wide range of modern digital research tools. The front page of the wiki provides a directory to the many resources.
Financial Research
Bloomberg
Description: Provides real-time and archived financial and market data, pricing, trading, news and communications tools in a single, integrated package to corporations, news organizations, financial and legal professionals and individuals around the world.

DataStream (Thomson)
Description: Contains economic, company, and financial data. Data series include bonds, commodities, equity, futures/options, economic indicators, and derivatives and are supplied from both national and international markets.
Coverage: Includes 198 markets from 96 different countries and 22 different geographic areas.

WRDS [Wharton Research Data Services] (The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania)
Description: Business intelligence databases with financial, accounting, banking, economics, management, marketing, public policy and insurance data.
Tip: Subscription datasets include COMPUSTAT North America, CRSP and Eventus, I/B/E/S, IRRC, NYSE TAQ, and Thomson Financial Ownership. Click the Tools tab at top for links to specific applications.

Citation Searching
SSRN - [Social Science Research Network]
Descriptions: "Social Science Research Network (SSRN) is devoted to the rapid worldwide dissemination of social science research and is composed of a number of specialized research networks in each of the social sciences." Subsections include Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship Research & Policy, Information Systems, Legal Scholarship, Management Marketing, Negotiations, and Social Insurance.

Web of Science [in Web of Knowledge] (ISI)
Description: For academic researchers, this citation index makes it possible to see what recent journal articles cite a particular earlier article or author. By tracing citation relationships, it is possible to understand the development of a research field or topic and the collaborators in the topic.
Tip: Within the Web of Knowledge interface, users may select or deselect which databases are searched. The three citation index databases are: Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Science Citation Index Expanded, and Social Sciences Citation Index.

Working Papers
SMU Cox Working Papers- View HTML versions of the Cox faculty's current working papers through the SMU Cox School of Business Web site. In most cases, paper copies of SMU Cox working papers are accessible in the Business Information Center. View the abstracts of previous working papers to determine which are available. Caseplace.org - "Free service of the Aspen Institute Business and Society Program. CasePlace offers a wide range of business education materials in social impact management, sustainability and business ethics."
Harvard Business Online for Educators - Resource where educators can develop case based curricula, match cases to current textbook chapters, as well as other educator tools. SMU also has online access to the Harvard Business Review through the Business Source Complete database.
Thunderbird Case Series - "The official case clearinghouse for international business cases and notes authored by the faculty of Thunderbird, The Garvin School of International Management."
