BUSINESS INFORMATION CENTER

Did You Know...

  • Want to know more? CLICK HERE
    • The information in the little red box at the top of our Web pages is designed to lead you to this page where you can learn more about the topics that are introduced. The topics change about once per week, so you will want to look at “Little Red” frequently. When you see something that seems interesting, click to read the whole article. Sometimes it is just a brief bit of helpful information like this one. Other times it can lead you to several sources of further information on a topic.
Let us know that you read this by sending an e-mail and including the phrase “I read Little Red” in the subject line and repeating that or writing something else in the comment box. This will enter your name into a drawing to win a special treat from the new Einstein Bros. Bagels. (You must use your SMU e-mail address. One entry per person.)
  • Introducing… Computer study group tables
    • Group projects are the norm in business classes. Now the BIC is providing space for groups to gather easily around one computer to work on their projects and presentations. The computer stations designated as C1 and C2 each have a table with a computer and four chairs (with room for a fifth). Just ask for C1 or C2 or for a “group computer” at the BIC front desk. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
When you are done researching and creating your presentation and need to practice your presentation before class, use the group presentation room in the BIC. This room is set up with the same equipment as Cox classrooms so you will feel comfortable with your surroundings when you do the actual presentation. Reservations are recommended for this room to ensure you get the practice time that is convenient for you. Ask to sign up for a time slot at the BIC front desk.
  • Office 2003 has retired - Office 2007 is on the job
    • This summer the entire SMU campus upgraded to supporting only Office 2007 on the lab computers. All business courses that teach Excel will be using the 2007 version. The computers in the BIC no longer contain the Office 2003 suite of programs. However, Office 2007 is available to meet those needs. If you have a file that is in an earlier format, Office 2007 will read it just fine and save it in “compatibility mode” so you can continue to read it using Office 2003 on another machine. Or you can choose to save in the Office 2007 format. Cox Tech Support is available to assist you as you make the transition to Office 2007.
