MASTER OF SCIENCE IN MANAGEMENT (MSM)

Leadership Development
Employers say that when all other qualities and skills are equal, strong leadership and communications skills are what set certain candidates apart from their competition. In the Cox MSM program, you have access to specialized training in these areas through the Business Leadership Center (BLC). Established in 1992, the BLC today offers more than 60 seminars taught by business practitioners from Fortune 500 companies, medium-size businesses, and entrepreneurial ventures. In addition to presenting traditional seminars on topics such as project management, leading in crisis and change, and strategic communications, the BLC offers individualized training in several areas, including advanced presentation techniques and advanced business writing.
BLC Advantage (learn more from former students)
"It was not until my first consulting job that I realized how much better prepared I was as a communicator and team leader than my peers from other schools. I attribute my success to the skills I gained from attending BLC seminars."
- Bill Donnelly, American Management Systems
"The pace of today's working environment barely allows you to participate in continuing education in your own field, let alone a seminar aimed at your own personal well-being. The Business Leadership Center offers every student the opportunity to do a full personal assessment and really target your training to your own personal needs and wishes. The BLC gave me the skills, tools and self-confidence to manage any environment."
- Don Kirkland, Deloitte Consulting
"Any school can teach the basic skills, but the BLC teaches students how to interact with people, what it takes to be a leader, and how to communicate with others. BLC seminars helped me to become more aware of the personalities around me, which will ultimately make me a better leader."
- Victoria Eavenson, Cingular Wireless
"Without the BLC, many students forget how difficult and humbling it can be to allow the appropriate leader to be in charge during a given situation. When thinking about my future work situations, I used to say, 'I'll deal with it when I get there.' However, the BLC game me a chance to 'be there" without the consequences, and a chance to reinforce the things I did right and to recognize and explore the things I did wrong."
- Milt Songy, President I2C
"The BLC was a key source of differentiation and value when comparing the Cox MBA with other top schools from around the country. The BLC is an effective and innovative complement to our MBA experience. It's everything they never taught you in business school, taught in a business school"
