Develop Your Career Plan
The SMU Cox MBA Career Management Center (CMC) is committed to helping you obtain your ideal career position. Toward that end, CMC staff members work closely with you throughout your MBA program to help you create and implement an individualized career development plan.
In the first year of career management training, you complete an online self-assessment of your business interests and abilities and begin working one-on-one with a CMC counselor to create your career development plan. You also participate in résumé workshops, career opportunity panels, mock interviews, and networking events. These activities help you improve your basic job-search skills as well as identify the career path that best suits your business skills and professional goals.
CMC staff members also assist you in securing a summer internship through on-campus interviews and off-campus referrals and networking. In addition to giving you firsthand experience in a discipline or industry of interest, the summer internship allows you to enhance your business skills and establish important professional contacts.
In your second year, you continue to work closely with CMC counselors, who help you develop a strategic job-search plan and keep you apprised of on-campus recruiting, referral, and networking opportunities. CMC Broadcast (an electronic CMC newsletter) and eRecruiting are two additional tools you can use for on-campus recruiting information.
