International Applicants
English Language Proficiency Requirement
If your first language is not English, you must demonstrate fluency in speaking and writing English by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the Pearson Test of English (PTE). This requirement may be waived for international students who hold degrees from English-speaking countries.
Automatic TOEFL/PTE Waiver
If you hold an earned degree (Bachelors or Masters) from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada or Singapore you do not need to submit a TOEFL/PTE score. In-progress degrees from any of these countries do not qualify for an automatic waiver.
Requesting a Waiver
If you hold a degree (Bachelors or Masters) from another English-speaking country, you can request a waiver of the TOEFL/PTE. Your request must be sent to mbainfo@cox.smu.edu BEFORE you submit an application for admission. This request MUST contain the following information to allow the Admissions Committee to assess your English-languate abilities:
- Total GMAT score and percentile
- GMAT Verbal score and percentile
- GMAT AWA score and percentile
- Amount of time spent living in the United States
