FULL TIME MBA

International Applicants
Financial Certification & Student Visa

All international students must submit a Financial Certification Form prior to receiving their I-20 visa paperwork from SMU. The FCF requires students to demonstrate proof of ability to pay for the first year of the program. The FCF does not need to be submitted with the application for admission. Many applicants choose to wait until they know if they will receive a scholarship from the school as it can be used to meet the financial requirement. However, the sooner we receive a completed FCF and all other visa paperwork from you, the quicker we are able to send you the I-20 so you can continue through the visa process.

I-20 Forms are issued only after you have been admitted to the Cox MBA Program, provided the $750 tuition deposit and have verification of adequate financial support. Submitting a Financial Certification Form before the date due, completed according to the guidelines outlined, will significantly expedite issuance of the I-20 Form.

All students, regardless of nationality, are considered for Cox MBA merit scholarships. We encourage international applicants to request review for merit scholarships on their application for admission and to consider applying for the Cox Distinguished MBA Scholars program.

Although international students are eligible for and are awarded merit scholarships, only 50 percent of the scholarship may be applied toward the financial certification process.

Applicants who are non-US citizens and non-Permanent Residents are not eligible for the Federal Student Loan program through the FAFSA. International students should investigate all sources of funding within their own countries, such as government scholarships and loans, private agencies, and bank loan programs. If additional funding is needed, recommended private loan programs are:
  • Citibank offers a consumer based loan with a US cosigner: www.citiassist.com
  • The Access Group offers a signature loan to international students with a three-year credit history in the United States: www.accessgroup.org
  • Sallie Mae MBA Loans are available to international students if the loan is cosigned by a credit worthy U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident: www.salliemae.com
