How do I apply to take the GMAT?
GMAT registration information can be found at www.mba.com.

How do I submit my GMAT score?
You have the opportunity to request for your score to be sent to up to 5 schools and can include Cox on that list when you first take the test. If you previously took the GMAT and did not request the testing service to send your score to us at that time, you must contact them and ask for a duplicate copy to be sent.

Do you need my official GMAT score to review my application or can I send a copy of my unofficial score report?
Because there is a delay between your test date and the time we would receive your official score, you can send us a copy of your unofficial score report which you receive the day you take the test. It can be faxed to the MBA Admissions office at 214-768-3956 or mailed to us (see FAQ/Admissions Process for our address).

How much does the GMAT score count in admissions?
While the GMAT is an important piece of the application and should be taken seriously, it is still only one piece of your overall profile. The Admissions Committee reviews each application in its entirety taking the overall application into consideration.

Do you average the GMAT score if I take it more than once?
The Admissions Committee will consider the highest total GMAT score submitted by an applicant.

If my score is lower than your GMAT range, should I apply?
The GMAT range provided in our Student Profile section is a picture of the middle 80% of students in the most recent entering classes. Because the GMAT is not the sole factor in an admissions decision, we have admitted students with scores below those in our range. If you feel confident in the overall picture your application demonstrates and feel you are a competitive candidate, we encourage you to apply.

Do you offer GMAT prep courses?
The Cox School of Business does not offer GMAT prep courses. However, SMU’s Continuing Education division does offer courses. You can learn more and register at http://www.smu.edu/continuing_education/personal/testprep/testprep.asp.

Do all international students need to submit a TOEFL/PTE score?
If you hold a bachelor's degree or higher from the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada or Singapore we will automatically waive the TOEFL/PTE requirement.

If you have earned a degree from another English-speaking country and wish to waive the TOEFL/PTE requirement, you must request a waiver from the Admissions Committee prior to submitting your application for admission. Students seeking this type of waiver must send an e-mail to mbainfo@cox.smu.edu with ALL of the following information: overview of number of years of education with English instruction, GMAT score (total score along with score/percentile for both the Verbal and AWA sections), amount of time spent living and working in the United States, and any other pertinent information related to your English proficiency.

Can I substitute another test for the TOEFL/PTE?
Beginning with candidates seeking 2010 entry, applicants now have the option of submitting either a TOEFL score or a score from the Pearson Test of English (PTE) which will be offered beginning in October 2009.  No other tests would be accepted.

What is the minimum TOEFL/PTE score necessary?
We do not require a minimum TOEFL score but strongly encourage applicants to submit a TOEFL score of at least 100, (Internet-based test version), 250 (computer-based test version), or 600 (paper-based test version).  Information related to PTE score recommendations will be updated shortly.

If I take the TOEFL/PTE more than once, which score do you evaluate?
The Admissions Committee will consider your most recent TOEFL/PTE score as part of your application.  Please keep in mind that scores are only valid for two years.
