Finance Concentrations
You have the opportunity to concentrate in Finance and further specialize in Alternative Assets, Corporate Finance, Energy Finance or Investments. In addition, the Information Technology and Operations Management Department offers a secondary concentration in Quantitative Financial Modeling if your primary concentration is in Finance.
Beginning in 2009, those wishing to pursue the new Energy Finance specialization will take a new course among their other finance courses: Energy Project Valuation and Finance.
This concentration will prepare you for career opportunities in:
- Corporations and multinational firms
- Commercial banks
- Financial institutions
- Brokerage and investment houses
- Consulting firms
Practicum in Portfolio Management
The Practicum in Portfolio Management provides you with a real-time money-management experience in managing a portfolio. Each semester, students in the course study a client’s needs, examine risk tolerance, undertake an economic outlook to determine future strengths and weaknesses in the economy, and buy and sell individual securities to achieve specified investment goals. Acceptance to the course is competitive and based on submitted applications. “It’s the best exposure to managing money," remarked Sam Chase, Cox MBA 2004, Stephens Inc. Investment Management. “There’s no better way to learn the market than actually being in the market, being able to see the pressures and feel the impact personally.”
