GIVING

Mark Baxter Fund
When Mark A. Baxter, former director of the Maguire Energy Institute, died of a heart attack last May, the Cox
School lost a visionary leader, a patient and passionate teacher, a tireless ambassador, and a dear friend.
A Legacy of Giving
Mark joined the Cox School in May 2001, bringing with him more than 30 years of experience in the energy
industry from across the globe. Mark loved working directly with students, and he influenced many lives and
careers with his knowledge. He also built the Institute’s reputation to one of international prominence by serving as
a trusted, reliable source for the media who was regularly quoted as a renowned energy expert.
The Mark A. Baxter Fund for the Maguire Energy Institute
As Mark loved giving his time and knowledge to students, his friends would like to honor him by continuing to
support Cox students. The Mark A. Baxter Fund for the Maguire Energy Institute will provide funding for activities
that connect business students with the energy industry, such as networking events, speaker presentations, and company
visits. If at least $25,000 is raised by August 1, SMU’s endowed program threshold will be met, providing
monies in support of these activities in perpetuity. Raising these funds will require a group effort on the part of students,
alumni, and friends of Mark Baxter, and will result in a fitting tribute to the work Mark held so dear. If you
would like to make a contribution to the Mark A. Baxter Fund, please contact Debbie Shtofman at 214-768-4988
or shtofman@cox.smu.edu.
