SMU Cox Faculty Experts: Economics
•Albert (Al) Niemi, dean of SMU’s Cox School of Business, is an economist by training and a nationally recognized expert on national and regional economic trends, financial market trends and analysis, as well as the value of an MBA/executive education. Dr. Niemi is an active teacher and scholar; he has taught more than 15,000 students and has written six books and more than 200 articles for leading academic journals and business periodicals. Before coming to SMU, Dr. Niemi served as dean of the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia from 1982-1996. He is active in the business community and speaks to numerous civic and business groups across the nation. He served as economics editor and wrote a monthly column for Georgia Trend magazine from 1985 to 1996. In 1992, he was named the best regular feature writer in the nation by the Association of Area Business Publications. Dr. Niemi serves on the boards of Bank of Texas, Titanium Metal, Sanders Morris Harris Group, and the Southwest Graduate School of Banking. He also serves on the Advisory Board for TXU. •Michael (Mike) Davis is a lecturer in economics and finance at the Cox School. Professor Davis specializes in areas concerning the economy and the economic effects on industry, and has recently been referenced in the media concerning employment numbers and economic recovery.
