EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

OVERVIEW
Whether you’re a leader in a hospital, a medical practice or another part of the Baylor Health Care System, you’ve already learned a great deal about the business side of medicine. However, like many non-physician executives, you probably realize that you could be more effective if you knew a little more. You may need to know more about the latest in information management and technology. You may need to increase your knowledge about financial management. Or, you may need to improve your leadership skills.
You have been nominated and invited to participate in a unique educational experience. Baylor Health Care System, working closely with the SMU Cox School of Business has developed a six-day program of Physician Leadership Development that will be delivered over a two year period. This course will cover a variety of topics that other physician leaders have found invaluable in their roles.
HOW WE WORK
We developed a flexible, dynamic custom program to help you use your time wisely. We know how busy you are. Each day of this course will be packed with didactic and interactive sessions taught by the experienced faculty of the Cox School. Examples and case studies relevant to health care will be used frequently. The curriculum has been custom developed by SMU faculty in collaboration with Baylor physician leaders.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
Purpose
The purpose of this program is to enhance the effectiveness of the physician leader to improve physician performance, clinical performance, and overall care improvement as undertaken by the Baylor Health Care System.
The Baylor Health Care System Physician Leadership Development Program will help you become a more effective physician leader. Our faculty understands your industry, and they will provide you with practical, real-world skills and knowledge about the business side of health care, leadership, and effectiveness in dealing with the complexities of your industry.
Objectives
Upon completion of the program, the physician will be able to:
Leadership
- Analyze his/her leadership style and develop a plan for improving management effectiveness
Develop personal awareness and effectiveness in dealing with conflicts and adverse behavior
- Lead effective organizational change initiatives
- Manage through influence, creating more
- productive and more enjoyable relationships
- Practice the art of leadership
Corporate Finance
- Use financial information to make better business decisions through health care cost and financial management
- Utilize managerial accounting to improve planning, controlling, and decision making
- Employ financial analysis to better select projects and investments
Strategy
- Apply strategic management to compete on the leading edge of turning ideas into business opportunities
- Apply corporate strategy to organizational planning
- Apply human capital strategy in managing performance to evaluate and develop employees
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Target Audience
- Presidents of all Baylor Health Care System entities have nominated BHCS physician leaders to attend this course.
- There is no charge to attendees, but we will ask you to commit to try to attend all sessions if you accept this invitation.
- An additional opportunity will be provided for attendees to meet in small informal groups during a two hour evening session to discuss applications of previously presented didactic material. Led by BHCS executives and physician leaders, these small group colloquia will be held in the homes of Baylor leaders and should provide lively interaction and deepen relationships.
