CISB 5397: Starting a Business
Course Objective:
The objectives of this course include the following; To provide students with an awareness of what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur; to explore the creation of value through the process of starting a new business venture; to teach students the skills required to prepare and present a professional business plan, and to enhance the analytical skills needed to identify and properly evaluate a new business opportunity.
Course Description:
This course will cover topics including; Personal characteristics of successful entrepreneurs; Analysis of competition and market opportunities; Development of a viable business concept; Creation of a marketing plan for an entrepreneurial venture; Development of a sales forecast; Preparation of comprehensive financial forecasts; Exploration of financing options and an overview of entrepreneurial considerations such as international expansion and family-owned business issues; Preparation and presentation of a professional business plan.
