ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT THE CARUTH INSTITUTE

Caruth Director, Jerry F. White

Since 1988, White has served as director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at SMU’s Cox School of Business. In this role, he has developed innovative programs such as the Cox MBA Venture Fund and business plan competitions for MBA and EMBA students. He has taught and counseled more than 22,000 entrepreneurs throughout the United States and Canada since 1972. Under White’s leadership, the Caruth Institute has received national recognition, achieving a #5 ranking among U.S. business school entrepreneurship programs by Entrepreneur magazine in 2005.

White is co-founder of the Dallas100TM Awards, an annual event that has identified and honored the 100 fastest-growing privately held companies in the Dallas area for the past 15 years. In addition, he serves as chairman of the Southwest Venture Forum, a bimonthly meeting of approximately 200 entrepreneurs, venture investors, and the professionals who serve them throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

White also is as an independent management consultant, specializing in strategy and finance for growth-oriented entrepreneurial businesses. He has served on the boards of numerous companies for the past two decades, and today advises a number of CEOs.

White is co-author of The Entrepreneur’s Master Planning Guide (Prentice-Hall) and Administering the Closely Held Company (Prentice-Hall).
