BLI 3303 Business Communications
Class Objectives
· To understand communication channels and appropriate mediums within organizations.
· To understand how cultural diversity and global expansion affect business communication.
· To exercise knowledge through experiential learning and hands-on assignments designed to develop demonstrable communication skills for improved business impact.
· To develop a communication package necessary for initiating and managing a business career to include: written value proposition, oral communication processes and writing samples.
· To review the fundamentals of correct usage of the English language.
Expected Learning Outcomes
· Students will be able to understand corporate structures, corporate terms and principles, business drivers, and organizational cultures that undergird competent professional business communication.
· Students will develop and deliver a value proposition relative to communicating persuasively in business environments.
· Students will demonstrate successful business writing skills that include letters, memorandums, business reports, and electronic business communications.
· Students will successfully collaborate with team members to interview local executives, develop and present an informational presentation.
· Students will practice and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, verbal and nonverbal behavioral messages, and managerial approaches to communicating in the business environment.
· Students will develop a career management skill set to include: communicating their value proposition, effective interviewing, and personal marketing.
