BLI 2301  Contemporary Business Topics
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The course focus is on relevant business topics and consists of lecture, self-assessments, discussion, simulations, and team work.  The fundamental purpose of this course is to develop your understanding of factors that can enhance your effectiveness and success as a business student and professional in today’s profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Contemporary business topics will include components on:  leadership styles; creativity; accelerated learning; interpersonal relations/sales; business presentation skills; ethics and integrity; leaders versus followers, culminating in a corporate capstone leadership project.  Students will also interview a business leader and write a paper based on that interview.
 
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of the course, students will:
1. Identify personal leadership style
2. Construct and deliver effective business presentations
3. Enhance interpersonal verbal and nonverbal communication skills
4. Practice creativity and accelerated learning skills
5. Understand the value of integrity, ethics and trust in business
6. Examine diverse approaches and theories to contemporary business topics
7. Enhance skills required for effective business managers and leaders
