John Terry
John Terry is the founder of ChurchillTerry, an advisory firm serving entrepreneurs and investors in high growth privately held firms. John has prepared over 60 business plans to date, facilitating in excess of $100 million in debt, equity funding, and exit transactions. In addition to providing advisory services, he personally has held a half-dozen interim CFO roles to assist clients in managing their growth pre- and post-funding, including making personal investments in some of these businesses. Current and former entrepreneurial clients include Dallas 100 winners, an Inc. 500 winner, and Entrepreneur of the Year candidates. John also works with angel and venture groups as an advisor, including firms such as Stratford Capital, Colt Ventures and B4 Ventures. As part of its growth, ChurchillTerry expects to launch its first fund this year.
Prior to founding ChurchillTerry in 1998, John held a variety of executive positions in both start-ups and established firms in technology and sales focused on developing and deploying digital television and digital satellite. He started his career as a broadcast engineer, designing and building television stations and transmission equipment.
In 1982, John earned a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in Radio-TV-Film from Valdosta State University. He completed his MBA at SMU’s Cox School of Business in 1994, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class. He has been quoted in Entrepreneur magazine and major papers around the country, and has taught before the Texas Society of CPAs. Since 2001, he has served as an adjunct professor at SMU Cox, teaching Starting A Business, Private Equity and Venture Capital, and the Venture Capital Practicum. John currently sits on the boards of the SMU MBA Venture Fund, the Southwest Venture Forum, and the Plano YMCA. He, his wife Kathy, and his two daughters reside in Plano, where they have lived since 1990.
