John E. Schoen Biosketch
John Schoen is an adjunct lecturer at the Cox School of Business and the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship, where he has taught graduate entrepreneurship and family business courses since 1995.
During the past 35 years, John has been an entrepreneur, consultant, and college professor. He has been an owner-manager of several types of distribution businesses, including construction and farm equipment in New Mexico, general-line industrial in Texas, and specialty building materials in Texas, California, Arizona, and Colorado.
In 2004, John retired as senior lecturer in the Department of Engineering Technology and Industrial Distribution and as co-director of the Texas A&M Family and Owner-Managed Business Program. Prior to joining the faculties at SMU and Texas A&M, John was the founding director of Baylor University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, co-founder of the Institute for Family Business at Baylor, and Baylor’s first Family Business executive-in-residence.
John is also the president of the New Mexico Family Business Alliance, a non-profit organization dedicated to the provision of educational programs for New Mexico family firms, farms, and ranches.
