Kumar Venkataraman is an Associate Professor in Finance at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University, where he joined the faculty in 2000. He received his MMS degree in Finance from BITS-Pilani (India) in 1994 and his Ph.D. degree in Finance from Arizona State University in 2000. He has taught Portfolio Theory and Asset Pricing (MBA), Financial Management (Undergraduate), and specialized modules on investment topics for Cox’s Finance Certificate Program. He is the recipient of Research Excellence Award for the Cox School in 2004 and was nominated for the (University-wide) Golden Mustang Outstanding Faculty Award in 2006

Dr. Venkataraman has research interests in the areas of Market Microstructure, Firm Disclosure Policy, and Market Efficiency. He has published numerous articles in premier finance and accounting journals including The Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Economics and The Review of Financial Studies.   He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the journal, Financial Management.

His research has influenced important policy debates on the structure of the financial markets, and has been cited by regulators, both in United States (Securities and Exchange Commission) and in Europe (Financial Services Authority). His work has been featured in industry publications, such as The CFA Digest, and in several books, including The Handbook of World Stock, Derivatives and Commodities Exchanges.  His research has been presented at leading conferences including the American Finance Association conference, Western Finance Association conference, and the Harvard Business School Accounting conference,  at several prominent Universities, and at industry outlets, including the New York Stock Exchange.   He is an invited member of the prestigious National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) Working Group on Market Microstructure.
