Cox School of Business Announces 2008 Distinguished Alumni Awards
DALLAS, Texas (SMU) - In its 17th year of recognizing outstanding alumni, the Cox School of Business honored five graduates at the Distinguished Alumni Awards Luncheon. Beth E. Mooney, D. Scott Luttrell and Paul Milton Bass, Jr. were named as Distinguished Alumni. John H. Massey II and Shane N. Evangelist were awarded the Outstanding Young Alumni award.
Alumni are nominated based on their demonstrated civic and business leadership and success in their field of endeavor. Outstanding Young Alumni must be 40 years old or younger. Honorees have included both graduate and undergraduate alumni.
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI Beth E. Mooney (MBA ’83), vice chair, KeyCorp, Cleveland, Ohio Beth Mooney is vice chair of KeyCorp, the nation’s 13th-largest bank. She has 30 years of experience in retail banking, commercial lending and real estate financing. In 2006, USBanker magazine listed Mooney as fifth among the nation’s top banking CFOs. The magazine rated her one of the “25 most powerful women in banking” in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Mooney also assumes a wide variety of civic and community leadership roles.
D. Scott Luttrell (BBA ’77), CEO, Luttrell Capital Management Group, Tampa, Florida D. Scott Luttrell is the founder and CEO of LCM Group, Inc., a Tampa-based investment firm specializing in alternative asset funds management and financial consulting services. Luttrell has more than 29 years of investment and financial market experience with particular expertise in hedge fund and fund of funds, venture, private equity, foreign exchange and fixed-income investing.
Paul M. Pass, Jr. (BBA ’57), vice chairman, First Southwest Company, Dallas, Texas Paul M. Bass, Jr. has served as vice chairman of First Southwest Company, a regional investment banking firm, since 1988. He specializes in corporate finance, investment management and public finance. Bass is active in the Dallas civic community, mainly through his association with medical charities. Bass was presented with the Southwestern Medical Foundation Community Service Award in 1994. In 2006, he received the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award.
OUTSTANDING YOUNG ALUMNI
John Massey II (BBA ’93), president, Griffon Energy Capital, LLC, Houston, Texas John Massey II is president and a member of the risk and executive committees at Griffon Energy Capital, LLC. His primary trading focus is building the premier hedge fund environmental trading desk while also focusing on coal, power, natural gas and crude trading. Massey is a pioneer in coal and environmental trading and widely respected as the most successful manager in the space. He was recently featured in Forbes magazine.
Shane N. Evangelist (MBA ’00), CEO, U.S. Auto Parts Network, Inc., Carson, California As CEO of U.S. Auto Parts, Shane N. Evangelist is leading the company to its next phase of growth as it continues rapid expansion and strives to become the leader in the online auto parts market. Prior to joining U.S. Auto Parts, he served as senior vice president and general manager of Blockbuster Online, where he was responsible for leading the creation, development and launch of Blockbuster’s online movie rental service.
