SMU Cox Executive Education to Co-host Energy Industry Investment Conference
DALLAS — SMU Cox Executive Education is pleased to partner with Oil and Gas Investor magazine and EnCap Investments, L.P. for a conference June 10-11. Institutional investors will have the rare opportunity to learn about the energy industry and how to evaluate companies within that industry, in addition to meeting energy industry leaders. The conference will cap off with a site visit to a drilling operation in the Barnett Shale.
“We’re in a presidential election year, the U.S. economy is in a tailspin and the price of oil is increasing to new heights daily,” said Leslie Haines, editor-in-chief of Oil and Gas Investor. “For investors with a portfolio in the oil and gas business, it is important to know what all this means to those investments and exactly how the business works today. This conference will give investors that information as well as the valuable opportunity to interact with their peers in the investment community.”
Called “Oil and Gas Investing for Institutional Investors,” the conference’s agenda includes a global energy outlook provided by Dr. William J. Pike, editor-in-chief and editorial director of Oil and Gas Investor, sister publication Hart’s E&P, and an economic overview of the petroleum industry provided by David Heikkinen, managing director and head of exploration and production at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., an energy investment and merchant banking boutique.
Panel sessions will include discussions on the various segments within the oil and gas industry as well as investment opportunities in oil and gas. The latter will feature Porter Trimble, executive vice president of Merit Energy; Tom Whitener, president of Energy Spectrum; and Danny Weingeist, managing director of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors.
“This two-day event is an excellent opportunity for institutional investors who currently maintain an oil and gas portfolio, or for those who are new to oil and gas investing, to meet the leading experts and investors and gain insight and perspective on the industry climate,” said Dr. Frank Lloyd, dean of SMU Cox Executive Education. “Plus, investors will learn about the types of energy investments that can be made - now and in the future - and what to look for so that they might best profit from them.“ The agenda also includes the following presentations:
- “Geology and Geophysics for Non-Technical People” by Creties Jenkins, vice president and senior geologist for DeGolyer and MacNaughton, which offers international reservoir appraisal and field development services;
- “Petroleum Engineering for Non-Technical People” by Scott Reese, president of Netherland Sewell and Associates, providers of geological, geophysical, petrophysical and engineering services; and
- “Investment Decision Making” by Jason McMahon, managing director of EnCap Investments, L.P., a leading provider of private equity to the independent sector of the U.S. oil and gas industry.
The conference will close with a site visit to a Barnett Shale drilling operation and a tour of the drilling rig, hosted by Toby Darden of Quicksilver Resources, a Fort Worth-based natural gas and crude oil producer that is recognized as a leader in the development and production of unconventional natural gas reserves, including shale gas.
Space for the conference is limited. Call 214-768-3329 for reservations and more information.
