SMU Cox Adds Course in Diversity Marketing
Dallas (SMU) – SMU Cox welcomes Texas entrepreneur and executive Raymond Basye (MBA '82) as an adjunct lecturer. Beginning this summer, Basye will teach Diversity Marketing, focusing on a broad and comprehensive concept of marketing to diverse segments. Along with Basye's insight, the course will feature executives from the business community as guest lecturers to share real world examples of the business case for diversity. It will focus on the unique characteristics of diverse market groups and their impact on stock value and company profitability. “The goal of this course is to encourage students to expand current biases to diverse marketing approaches, and look at the approach from a pure business standpoint,” said Basye. “The fact of the matter is there are real dollars associated with this approach, and companies who do not embrace these techniques in our increasingly diverse and global world will be left out.” After receiving his Cox MBA, Basye graduated from the highly acclaimed Minority Business Executive Program at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. He is currently a member of the Cox Executive Board, and has formerly served on the boards of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Citizens Council, American Red Cross, among others. “We are delighted to have Mr. Basye on board,” said Steve Denson, director of diversity for the Cox School. “After introducing a course Hispanic Marketing in 2004, we decided to expand upon the syllabus to include various other minority groups. The class has already filled for the summer, and students are eager to learn.”
