SMU Cox Sponsors First-Ever Corporate Relay Challenge at the 2006 Wellstone’s Dallas White Rock Marathon
Corporate teams compete for prize money benefiting Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children
Dallas (SMU) – The SMU Cox School of Business is pleased to announce it will sponsor the first-ever Corporate Relay Challenge at the 2006 Wellstone’s Dallas White Rock Marathon. The Cox School will team with Corporate Relay Challenge co-sponsors Behringer Harvard and the Trammell Crow Company to recognize and reward corporate teams competing in the marathon relay.
On December 10, 2006, five-person corporate teams will run a relay around the world-renowned 26.2 mile course: Leg 1 is 6 miles, Leg 2 is 4 miles, Leg 3 is 5 miles, Leg 4 is 5 miles, Leg 5 is 6.2 miles. The corporate team that completes the course first will lay claim to bragging rights as the most physically fit corporation in North Texas, and will receive a $2,500 credit toward a custom or open-enrollment SMU Cox Executive Education program. Corporate relay teams will also compete in such categories as Oldest and Youngest Teams, Most Corporate Teams, and even Best Corporate Costumes. Winning relay teams will share a purse of $35,000 in prize money, which will be given directly to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in the names of their respective corporations at a reception at SMU Cox in January 2007.
“The Cox School is honored to sponsor the first-ever Corporate Relay Challenge at the 2006 Wellstone’s Dallas White Rock Marathon,” said Albert W. Niemi, Jr., dean of SMU Cox. “For more than 85 years, the Cox School has taught individuals and companies how to achieve fiscal fitness in the workplace. We are pleased to team with such outstanding companies as Behringer Harvard and Trammell Crow to promote physical fitness among the local business community. This sponsorship role will also allow us to strengthen our commitment to serving the Dallas community by supporting the noble work of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, with whom we already have a strong relationship through an MBA consulting project.”
“In creating the Corporate Relay Challenge, the marathon board of trustees sought out world-class corporate partners who shared a common vision for the event and understood the positive impact it would have on participating companies, their employees, and most importantly the children at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital,” said Chuck Dannis, chairman and president of the 2006 Wellstone’s Dallas White Rock Marathon. “The partnership between SMU Cox and Dallas-based Behringer Harvard and the Trammell Crow Company will enable this event to become the largest and most prestigious race of its kind in this part of the country. And, because prize money donations will be given to more than just the fastest team, the Corporate Relay Challenge will allow all corporate participants to make a meaningful contribution to the hospital and have a lot of fun doing it.”
