THE AMERICAN INDIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND SMU COX SCHOOL OF BUSINESS DISCUSS NATIVE AMERICAN BUSINESS IN DFW
DALLAS, FEBRUARY 14, 2006: The American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas (AICCT) presents the 2006 Installation of Officers Luncheon, featuring honorary speaker Dr. Frank Lloyd, Associate Dean of Executive Education, SMU Cox School of Business.
During this special monthly membership meeting, Dr. Lloyd will outline the educational initiatives SMU Cox has implemented in the American Indian community nationwide. In addition, results of the 2006 AICCT election and an overview of upcoming programs and new committees will be announced.
“The American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Texas is the key contact group for corporations and individuals who want to do business with Native American -owned firms in Texas and the Southwest region,” said Steve Denson, Director of Diversity at SMU Cox School of Business, and member of the AICCT Board of Directors. “This meeting will be important as we will be discussing our 2006/2007 agenda and outlining our involvement within the Dallas business community.”
SMU Cox is the first and only business school to implement a program aimed at recruiting Native American students. Denson worked with the Chickasaw Nation Legislature in recruiting efforts along with other tribal leaders, intertribal student councils and Native American academic organizations to identify potential applicants and assist them with the admissions process. In the past year, SMU Cox has provided over $800,000 in scholarships to minority applicants. Six Native American students are currently enrolled at Cox and five have graduated as a result. The Cox School has been recognized as an outstanding proponent supporter of the Native American Education Program by DISD.
The meeting will take place at 12:00 p.m. on February 14, 2006 at SMU’s Cox School of Business. It will be in the Ernst & Young Gallery of Fincher Hall, located at 6212 Bishop Drive, Dallas.
