“The Balanced Leader”

Session Addresses 12 Characteristics of an Effective Leader in Addition to the “Dark Side of Leadership”

Washington D.C. and Dallas, TX – SMU’s Cox School of Business Executive Education and the Human Capital Institute (HCI) will host a free breakfast program on Tuesday, October 11 called “The Balanced Leader.” The event will examine findings of recent research describing the 12 characteristics of a balanced leader – such as self-interest, self-awareness, and risk tolerance – and will include a foray into the “Dark Side of Leadership,” considering whether dark side leaders can be saved through coaching or other intervention.

The presentation will be given by Dr. Terry Bacon, president and CEO of Lore International Institute and a recognized expert in talent management, executive coaching, and business development. Dr. Bacon has written or co-written over 80 books, reports, and papers, and has provided business consulting to many Fortune 500 companies and government agencies.

This inaugural session is made possible through a partnership by Human Capital Leadership and SMU Cox, as a way to bring human capital education and networking to the Dallas-Fort Worth business community. The event will be held at the university’s new home for working professionals – the James M. Collins Executive Education Center.

“HCI’s agreement with SMU Cox is an important step towards our goal to make innovative human capital education and information readily available to individuals and organizations,” said Allan Schweyer, HCI’s executive director. “SMU Cox is recognized as having one of the leading business programs in the nation, making them a perfect partner for providing talent management resources to the Dallas-Fort Worth business community.”

“These are exciting times, when the shift to a global, knowledge-based economy can either fill us with optimism or dread,” said Frank R. Lloyd, associate dean of Cox Executive Education. “We are committed to helping our students, alumni, and local organizations remain competitive in the new world by partnering with forward-thinking groups like HCI to bring the latest human capital research, strategies, and tools to leaders across business, academia, government, and consulting.”

This complimentary event is open to the public; however, seating is limited. Interested parties may register in advance by calling toll free 866-538-1909.
