THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF HISPANIC MBAs DFW CHAPTER AND THE COX SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AT SOUTHERN METHODIST UNIVERSITY TO PROVIDE GMAT PREP-COURSE SCHOLARSHIPS
DALLAS (SMU) - The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) DFW Chapter, a non-profit organization committed to encouraging Latinos to pursue graduate management education, and the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University announced today that their annual GMAT Prep-Course Scholarship program will kick-off on July 23, 2005.
The GMAT Prep-Course Scholarship co-sponsored by the Cox School of Business will start on July 23, 2005 and continue every Saturday through August 13, 2005. The program will be conducted between 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. on the SMU campus. Candidates can request an application and schedule via dfwnshmba@aol.com. The scholarship, valued at $650, is open to NSHMBA members only. NSHMBA annual membership dues are $20 for students and $65 for regular members.
With over 600 members, the DFW Chapter is working closely with area universities for supporting the Dallas Ft. Worth NSHMBA Chapter GMAT Prep-Course Scholarship. The program was initiated by the Dallas Ft. Worth Chapter in 1999, and with the Cox School of Business has been carried forward with great success since its inception. “The opportunity to provide GMAT prep classes to members in both Dallas and Ft. Worth is exciting and continues to grow ,“ said Isaac Rodriguez, President of the DFW NSHMBA Chapter. “Our GMAT Scholarship is also an excellent opportunity for us to create awareness and visibility of the need in increasing Hispanic attendance at the Graduate level. Our Chapter exists in order to serve as a medium and resource for Hispanic professionals and students in support of their education.”
“We look forward to working with the DFW NSHMBA Chapter again this year to provide this opportunity to many excellent MBA applicants,” said Steve Denson, Director of Diversity for SMU Cox. “In the past year, we have seen significant increase in applications to our program from the Hispanic community.”
NSHMBA is the largest contributor of national scholarships to Hispanics pursuing higher education. The National Society of Hispanic MBAs goal for 2005 is to offer $750,000 in scholarships. The Cox School of Business provided over $300,000 in scholarship to Latino and other minority applicants in the last academic school year, and was named among the top 25 MBA programs for Hispanics by Hispanic Trends magazine.
