Blockbuster Inc.
WHO: Joining Blockbuster Inc. as chairman and CEO in 1997, John Antioco led the financial turnaround of the company, introducing numerous marketing and operational initiatives. Under his direction, Blockbuster underwent a successful IPO in August 1999, and is now on a mission to become a complete source for movies and games for both rental and retail with the development and execution of online and in-store rental subscription programs, movie and game trading, and game store-in-stores.
Antioco previously served as the president and CEO of Taco Bell Corporation, a division of PepsiCo, chairman and CEO of Circle K Corporation, and chief operating officer of Pearle Vision, a retail eyeglass chain. Antioco has been named to Entertainment Weekly’s list of the 101 most powerful people in the entertainment industry and has been inducted into the Video Business Hall of Fame. He has also been honored with the DeMateius Humanitarian Award from
St. Vincent’s Services and the Herbert Hoover Humanitarian Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
