John Wilder, CEO of TXU, Speaks at SMU Cox’s Ernst & Young Management Briefing Series
Dallas, Texas (SMU) — The SMU Cox School of Business and the Ernst & Young Management Briefing Series welcome John Wilder, chairman and chief executive officer of TXU, Thursday, December 8 at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel. Following an 11:30 a.m. reception, the luncheon and presentation begin at noon.
Wilder joined TXU in late February 2004 as the first external CEO in the company’s 120-year history; Wilder was elected chairman of the board in May 2005. As CEO, Wilder is guiding TXU’s turnaround by implementing a restructuring and operational-improvement program aimed at transforming TXU from a traditional utility to a high-performance industrial company.
Wilder started in the energy business in Texas 25 years ago with the Royal Dutch/Shell Group. After serving as CEO of Shell Capital in London, Wilder was hired as chief financial officer in 1998 at Entergy Corporation and was a member of the senior management team that earned the company Business Week’s Global Energy Company of the Year in 2003. Wilder has also been recognized as Institutional Investor’s “Best CFO in America” and runner-up for “Best CEO in America” and “Best CEO” in 2004, as well as “Best Investor Relations by a Chairman, President or CEO” by Investor Relations Magazine. Wilder was also a finalist for CBS MarketWatch’s annual “CEO of the Year” award.
Wilder is a member of the World Economic Forum and the Edison Electric Institute, and also serves on the advisory bodies of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, the Global Energy Management Institute at the University of Houston, and the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. Wilder is also an active member of the United Methodist Church, where he serves on the congregation’s administrative board. Wilder is a native of Missouri and graduated magna cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelors degree in business administration; he later earned an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
