GREATER DALLAS BUSINESS ETHICS AWARDS ANNOUNCED
Four Dallas-based business organizations were honored for their exemplification and promotion of ethical conduct for the benefit of the workplace, the marketplace, the environment and the community at the first annual Greater Business Ethics awards presentation on Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the Westin Galleria Hotel. These Awards are sponsored by the Dallas Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals in partnership with SMU’s Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility, SMU’s Cox School of Business and the North Texas Business Ethics Forum.
The winners were:
  • Large company (over 2500 employees) EDS
  • Midsize company (250 to 2500 employees) Atmos Energy Corporation
  • Small company ( under 250 employees) HELP International,Inc.
Additional awards included:
  • The Cary M. Maguire Center/Cox School Award for Treatment of Employees and Customers was presented to The Container Store by Cary M. Maguire.
  • David J. Kerr, CLU, ChFC, AEP, received the Beverly L. Brooks Leadership Award for his career of exemplary volunteerism, community activity, ethical guidance, and leadership.
The other finalists were CDG and Associates; Corgan Associates, Inc.; The Container Store; Herb’s Paint and Body Shops; Jason’s Deli; Pegasus Solutions, Inc.; Southwest Auto; Spring Air Mattress Company; and Sunwest Communications, Inc.
Jasper Neel, Dean of Dedman College and Vice Provost of SMU presented the key note address entitled “Ethics in Society.” The Richard Mason, Director of the Cary M. Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility and chair of the judging committee, announced the winners. Brenda A. Smith, CLU, ChFC, Chair of the Steering Committee, noted, “the local award will be a stepping stone to the American Business Ethics Award which has been presented annually by the Society of Financial Service Professionals since 1994.”
