Allen Questrom is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of J. C. Penney Company, Inc., one of America's largest department store, drugstore, catalog, and e-commerce retailers. Questrom joined JCPenney in August 2000, from Barneys New York, Inc., where he was appointed chairman, president, and chief executive officer in May 1999. Previously, he served as chairman and chief executive officer of Federated Department Stores, Inc., the company at which he began his retailing career in 1964.
For the fiscal year ending January 2002, revenues for JCPenney rose to $32 billion. The company operates 1,100 JCPenney department stores, located in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Mexico; 49 Renner department stores in Brazil; and 2,600 drugstores throughout the Southeast, Sunbelt, and Northeast regions of the United States through its subsidiary, Eckerd Corporation.
