New Distinguished Scholars Program Offers Full Tuition Scholarships to MBAs
SMU's Cox School of Business Creates the Edwin L. Cox Distinguished Scholars Program
DALLAS, Texas (SMU) - SMU's Cox School of Business announces the Edwin L. Cox Distinguished Scholars Program, created to recognize and attract exceptional
MBA candidates. Each fall, up to 10
MBA candidates will be recognized as Cox Distinguished Scholars, receiving full-tuition scholarships and the opportunity to gain greater value from their
MBA experience.
In contrast to other scholarships, the Cox Distinguished Scholars Program includes a number of enrichment activities. Because the Cox experience is as important as the degree itself, Cox Distinguished Scholars will participate in two travel experiences providing a comprehensive perspective on business operations. In their first year, scholars visit New York City's financial district to study the world's leading financial institutions and major exchanges with an emphasis on better understanding the underpinnings of the free-market economy. In their second year, scholars travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in a Public Policy Forum, visiting Congress, the Supreme Court, and the White House. The experience exposes the scholars to the political process, developing their awareness of the important connections and relationships between government and business. These trips, combined with the Cox School's other pioneering programs such as the Business Leadership Center and the American Airlines Global Leadership Program (GLP), enhance the overall business school experience the Cox School offers its students.
"This is an exceptional opportunity for outstanding
MBA candidates," said Marci Armstrong, associate dean of masters programs. "No other
MBA program offers a scholarship with this kind of value-added experience."
Created from an existing endowment funded by Edwin L. Cox, the Cox Distinguished Scholars Program enables outstanding
MBA students to meet the growing need for tuition assistance in the current economy. The Cox Distinguished scholarships will be awarded to outstanding students who have achieved exceptional academic results as well as demonstrated strong leadership skills, a solid progression of professional achievement, and a strong sense of social responsibility and business ethics. Applicants will be required to complete an essay discussing the role of business and government in promoting ethical business practices while fostering an environment of free enterprise.
"The Cox Distinguished Scholars Program further demonstrates the school's commitment to creating an environment where the world's brightest business minds can excel," said Albert W. Niemi, Jr., dean of the Cox School of Business. "We are grateful to Edwin L. Cox's continuing support of programs that provide our students with unique learning opportunities that enrich their business school experience."
SMU's Cox School of Business offers a full range of business education programs, from BBA and full-time
MBA to Professional
MBA (PMBA), Executive
MBA (EMBA), and
Executive Education. Cox is ranked among the top business schools nationally and internationally by major publications including
BusinessWeek, Financial Times, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and U.S. News & World Report. In addition, the school's Business Leadership Center (BLC), Caruth Institute of Owner-Managed Business, American Airlines Global Leadership Program (GLP), and Associate Board executive mentoring program are recognized nationally and internationally.
