Cox School of Business Hosts
3rd International Conference on Telecommunications and Electronic Commerce
DALLAS (SMU) -- SMU's Cox School of Business hosts the 3rd International Conference on Telecommunications and Electronic Commerce November 16 - 19. The three-day seminar focuses on new technological developments and their implications for telecommunications and electronic commerce. Bezalel Gavish, chair of Cox's Information Technologies and Operations Management (ITOM) department, serves as general chair of the conference. Co-chairs Amit Basu and Joakim Kalvenes are also members of Cox's ITOM faculty.
Sessions include panels and presentations on business models, telecommunications, payment systems and banking, risk management, web-based marketing, e-business process design, and electronic commerce in the automotive industry. The conference combines research tracks in which technical papers will be presented with industrial tracks consisting of panels, plenary speakers, and exhibits. Both industry and academic leaders will attend the conference. Many of the significant advances in telecommunications and electronic commerce are occurring concurrently in academia and industry, making dialogue between these two groups even more valuable.
The Cox School recently expanded its ITOM department with the addition of four faculty members including former Vanderbilt University professors Bezalel "Ben" Gavish and Amit Basu. Gavish and Basu were instrumental in developing a unique program in telecommunications and electronic commerce at Vanderbilt that won national recognition for its academic strength and applied sciences.
