COX SCHOOL/AMERICAN AIRLINES ANNOUNCES KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR GLOBAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
WHO: Albert C. Black, Jr., president and CEO of On-Target Supplies and Logistics, will be the keynote speaker at the American Airlines Global Leadership Symposium. A small custodial and janitorial supplies and services corporation founded by Black in the early 1980’s, On-Target has expanded into a major warehousing and delivery logistics management company with annual revenues of $40 million. On-Target currently has locations in Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio, and includes more than 80 employees. Black serves as chairman of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce and also serves on the boards of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, Chase Bank of Texas, Texas Southern University, Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, and Paul Quinn College.
Black received a BS with concentrations in business and political science from UT Dallas in 1982, after which he founded On-Target. Black’s desire to successfully manage On-Target’s phenomenal growth led him to obtain his MBA from the Cox School of Business in 1995. He has received numerous awards for his achievements, including the Obelisk Award, the Citizen of the Year Award, and the Thirtieth Congressional District Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Business.
WHAT: The American Airlines Global Leadership Symposium is being sponsored by SMU’s Cox School of Business and the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce as well as the Dallas Hispanic Chamber, and the Greater Dallas Asian Chamber. Having returned from an intensive two-week trip to corporations around the world, the entire Cox first-year MBA class will present reports on their research as part of the American Airlines Global Leadership Symposium. Traveling in three groups, the students will have visited Asia (Taiwan, Japan, and China), Europe (Brussels, Budapest, Frankfurt, and London), and Latin America (Monterrey, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago). The students will have visited with over 60 corporations worldwide. They are focusing their research presentations in six areas: Finance, Human Resources, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Operations, and Research & Development.
During the first two weeks of May, students will meet with executives, managers, and government representatives. They will compare both industries and functions across regions. All three groups will have similar schedules that typically will include visits to two companies per day. (A complete list of participating corporations and institutions is attached with this release.) Lunches, dinners, and one-on-one meetings with executives from these organizations have been scheduled to allow for even greater access and exposure to the business community in each country. Cultural tours and meetings with government agencies have also been intermingled in the schedules.

THE PROGRAM:
This program has been made possible via a gift from American Airlines of over $1 million in airfare for the next three years. Commenting on the gift, Cox School Dean Albert Niemi said, "This gift will allow us to provide an extraordinary global experience for our students, enabling them to learn far more about international business than they can in the classroom. The American Airlines gift represents a tremendous expression of support for SMU and the Cox School." No other business school has ever offered an intensive three-week global program including two weeks of international travel to an entire MBA class.
