PaineWebber President Joseph J. Grano to Address Sprint/Ernst & Young Management Briefing Series
WHO: Joseph J. Grano, Jr., is President of PaineWebber Incorporated. Founded in 1879, PaineWebber has a reputation of being one of the nation’s leading full-service securities firms. Superior technology, industry expertise and specialized investment products has placed PaineWebber at the forefront of the financial services industry. In 1994, Grano stepped to the helm of PaineWebber as president of the company. Additional roles Grano now fills include member of the PaineWebber Incorporated Executive Committee, as well as member of the Boards of Directors of PaineWebber Group, Inc. and PaineWebber Incorporated. Grano joined PaineWebber as President of Retail Sales and Marketing in 1988.
Grano has served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers, and as a member of the organization’s Executive Committee. In 1987, a survey by Investment Dealer’s Digest recognized Grano for his outstanding accomplishments and named him the security industry’s best retail marketing executive.
Before joining PaineWebber, Grano worked with Merrill Lynch for more than a decade and a half. In 1972, Grano joined Merrill Lynch as an investment executive in an office in New Haven. Grano moved up through the ranks to quickly become Merrill Lynch’s youngest vice president. Grano became senior vice president and business unit director for Affluent Customers, and later became director of National Sales for Merrill Lynch Consumer Markets. The responsibilities of this position encompassed sales of all retail products, which amounted to $3 billion in revenues from a group of approximately 18,000 employees.
A former Green Beret, Grano is active in both the educational and the philanthropic arenas.
